Kinja'd!!!

My PC has been pinned at 100% disk usage lately making it unusable for gaming and simple things like Microsoft word. I have tried all of the things suggested on Toms hardware and so far nothing is working.

I'm wondering if it could be my HHD on its way out since the one I have is apparently a time bomb from all the 1 star newegg reviews. Also I am on windows 8.1 with super fetch, windows search, BITS, and the other programs disabled. Halp

I assume this is mucht he same on W8.

Scroll down to the disk section, then use the info to check what's thrashing the disk.

The answer is always SSD... or finding out what is wrong

Is your disk thrashing because it's writing/reading something or because your memory is used up and it's using the HDD as virtual memory? You might check task manager's performance tab to see if there is available memory and the processes tab to see what's hogging the resources. Also schedule chkdsk to run on your next boot.

Your hard drive is going bad. Right away, get a second hard drive and some kind of kit to transfer all the data off it (or at least all the important data, such as your collection of photos of Bettie Page).

If its actually at 100%, it won't work well at all like you describe and you need to take some megabytes off of it. If it just thinks its full, then the hard drive is going bad. Either way, I would get another hard drive, install it, install a fresh install of Windows on it, then transfer data from the old one to the new one and delete Windows from the old one. This will either solve the problem or at least save some data.

There is plenty of memory available so it isn't that. It's usually servicehost that is causing it but I have disabled BITS so it isn't much of a problem anymore. Usually it will just say that the system is causing the 100% usage or whatever program you have open like steam.

I've done that before and it is always system or service host. However, this never happened on my old 1tb hhd so I am thinking it is the hhd.

Are you sure there's no malware around?

I did a complete reinstall when I got malware on the 1 TB drive and I scan with superantispyware frequently so I don't think that it could be malware.

Give malwarebytes a whirl, too, just to be sure.

Nada. I haven't downloaded anything on this PC besides steam and the nvidia drivers.
